Opening Day Festivities 2013
Kick off the week's festivities strolling through Old Town Bluffton viewing
FRIENDS OF BLUFFTON ARTIST’S 3rd ANNUAL INVITATIONAL ARTIST SHOWCASE,
a celebration of exceptional hand-made, original local art

Showcase Artists
Musicians will entertain throughout the day on the main stage along with The May River Theatre presenting songs from their performances

BLUFFTON'S PADDLESPORT RACE

Marshgrass Adventures and Stand and Paddle have joined forces to present Bluffton's second paddle sports race. The "Paddle Battle" will consist of a recreational 3 mile and an elite 6 mile race. 
These races will be for kayaks, canoes, and SUP's. Entry fee of $35 per event will be required of participants. Same day on-site registration begins at 10:00AM. Start time is Noon at Bluffton Oyster Company Park.

KAYAK & PADDLE BOARD TOURS ON THE MAY RIVER, MONDAY - SATURDAY
There will be two tours available: an "early bird" tour at 8:00AM for $20.00 and a 10:00AM tour for $25.00 per person.  Price includes kayak or paddle board and 1 1/2 hour tour around the May River. Anyone that has a kayak or paddle board and wants to "tag along" can do so for free.  There is a 17 person maximum for each tour, so be sure and call 843-684-3296 for reservations.

Join Al Stokes, Manager/Wildlife Biologist IV, as he presents a tour of the Waddell Mariculture Center followed by a Crab-Pickin' and Oyster-Shuckin' Demonstration by the ladies of The Bluffton Oyster Company. Guests will benefit from the results of their hard work as a prelude to the Dinner Buffet.  The buffet, catered by the Toomers, includes Gumbo 2 Ways (chicken and seafood), Caesar salad, cornbread, cookies and tea.  Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Join Celebrity Chef and Cookbook Author, Sallie Ann Robinson, as she shares her authentic Gullah recipes at this exciting new event for the Seafood Festival.
Sallie Ann will provide a lecture and cooking demonstration followed with a cookbook signing. We will be entertained by her storytelling quality; will appreciate the authenticity of her recipes; and last but not least will enjoy the tasty results achieved when trying her dishes.

AUTHOR NIGHT - "CELEBRATE THE LOW COUNTRY YESTERDAY & TODAY" with local Gullah-Geechee storyteller Louise Cohen and New York Times bestselling author Patti Callahan Henry.  Louise will kick off the evening as she enthralls us with her rich Gullah-Geechee culture and history through word, song and dance.  In her presentation Ms. Cohen will use the authentic Gullah-Geechee language, sing Gullah Gospels and demonstrate the "Ring Shout" while sharing her ancestors' folk customs, oral hisory and arts.  Patti Callahan Henry will then bring us to today's Low Country as she details one of her favorite book settings.  Patti will talk about her book, And Then I found You, set in our very own Bluffton, and her newest book, The Stories We Tell, set in neighboring Savannah.  As Patti Callahan Henry shares details about her background and writing, past books, current ones and sneak previews for what’s next, we glimpse the exciting world of fiction through a very talented author's writings.  Make plans now to atend this exciting evening celebrating today and yesterday!

10K ROAD RACE & 5K FUN RUN       8:00AM – 10:30AM  Bluffton Oyster Factory Park. Join us for a run through Old Town Bluffton with scenic river and marsh views. Compete in a fast-paced 10K or complete the 5K with the entire family! Both events will be professionally chip timed.

KAYAK FISHING TOURNAMENT, BLUFFTON OYSTER CO. 8:00AM-1:00PM
Marshgrass Adventures will be sponsoring a kayak fishing tournament with an 8:00AM sign in and push off at 9:00. Fishing licenses will be required by all participants. There will be prizes awarded for heaviest legal trout, and heaviest legal redfish. Prizes also will be awarded for largest redfish. Photo documentation required showing length x width x circumference. Entry fee is $20. All participants are responsible for their own gear.

CHILDREN’S FISHING TOURNAMENT, BLUFFTON OYSTER CO. 10:00AM –12:30PM Register between 10:00 - 10:30AM at The Oyster Factory.  Weigh-In at 12:30PM at the Bluffton Oyster Company.  There is no fee. Prizes will be awarded.
