"Friends of Bluffton Artists"

“Friends of Bluffton Artists” 6th Annual Invitational Local Artist Showcase

This unique showcase is filled with loads of wonderful talent this year.  The galleries on Calhoun will be showcasing their artists both indoors and outdoors including their guests or new artists that have just joined them.

Come to Maye River Gallery at 37 Calhoun Street and see the work of over 30 local artists.  Meet several of them as they talk about and demonstrate their creations.

Award winning artist Joyce Nagel will dazzle us with her luminous pastels.  Laura Burcin, fiber artist, will be spinning her own silk and wool yarn.  Earline Allen will be working her magic with clay and Jeff McCombie will explain his amazing technique which turns a gourd into a water tight vessel with a variety of beautiful finishes.

La Petite Gallerie, located at 56 Calhoun Street, will be featuring three new artists:  Lauren Terrett, a lively painter of intuitive and impressionistic pieces; Bill Winn, a master of watercolor and acrylic; and Penny Beesley, a spontaneous and dynamic abstract artist. They’ll be on hand, along with the other four gallery artists, ready to meet and greet visitors. Lauren and Bill, along with long-time local artist Don Nagel will be plein air painting throughout the day, and carver Lee Grefalda will be demonstrating his skills, showing how he creates his tiny wood masterpieces.  Stop and say farewell to a favorite Bluffton artist and long-time arts organizer, Peggy Duncan. “Thank you for all you have done to promote the importance of the arts in our town. You paved the way for what we are today.”  Peggy was the original art organizer for the Historic Bluffton Arts & Seafood Festival in its inaugural year, 2005.

Please visit this intimate little gallery, and the adjacent garden, where you can enjoy art in the making on this special day.

Al Harry Furniture Design, 20 Calhoun Street, will be featuring two of their artists:  Hailey King, designer of one of a kind plasma cut steel art; and Betsy Smith, designer of unique jewelry.

Jacob Preston Studio, 10 Church Street, will again be hosting the “Empty Bowl” event from noon – 4:00pm.   Buy a bowl and fill a bowl with soup if you like. All monies raised will go to Meals on Wheels, Second Helpings and The Bluffton Community Kitchen.   Limited quantities available.

Calhoun Street Gallery, 44 Calhoun Street,  has their space filled with all sorts of handmade items including local artisans' creations of jewelry, pottery, paintings, etc., and featuring artist Judy Drummond.  Everything has a story!

Under the tents on the ART LOT:

Four Corners Gallery will be set up on the corner of Calhoun St and Lawrence under the blue and gold tent. There will be plenty of Doug Corkern’s work on hand as he was awarded the first artist of the year award. He paints life in Bluffton. The gallery will bring other artists’ work including Jim Lewis, Louanne La Roche and Peggy Ellis along with some bronzes and locally made pottery. Artist Nancy Fischer Waterhouse will be there to tell you about her beautiful raku firing processes.

Pierce Giltner will be coming onto Calhoun St for the day. Pierce is our local outsider artist painting on all sorts of reclaimed items. He paints historic life in the South.  He usually can be found at Cahill’s on the weekends.

A grassroots group will present works from their group of Bobbie Fertig, Mary Ann Hanna, Missy Gentile, Dawn Duff, Linda Saylor and Carolyn Goyette..

The showcase begins at 11am and will run until 4pm.
